HSK 1 in the new syllabus: the fifteen tasks a level 1 learner is expected to handle

The new HSK syllabus, in force from July 2026, sets fifteen task headings for HSK level 1. A level 1 learner is expected to handle each of these fifteen tasks. The Chinese below is copied from the syllabus; the English is this site's own translation and is unofficial.

The fifteen HSK level 1 task headings

The task syllabus chapter for level 1 lists these fifteen headings:

• 一、问答个人基本信息 — ask and answer basic personal information
• 二、问答事件信息 — ask and answer event information
• 三、问答物品信息 — ask and answer information about things
• 四、问答天气 — ask and answer about the weather
• 五、问答环境信息 — ask and answer about the environment
• 六、日常言语交往 — everyday spoken interaction
• 七、问答饮食喜好 — ask and answer food and drink preferences
• 八、问答出行信息 — ask and answer travel information
• 九、问答商品信息 — ask and answer product information
• 十、告知生病、探病 — tell of illness and visit the sick
• 十一、交流休闲活动 — talk about leisure activities
• 十二、介绍学习情况 — introduce one's studies
• 十三、交流学校情况、课后活动 — talk about school and after-class activities
• 十四、交流工作信息 — talk about work
• 十五、问答中国传统饮食 — ask and answer about traditional Chinese food

How a task is described: task 1 as the example

The first task, 一、问答个人基本信息, is described with four points:

• 能听懂在聚会、新生报到、参加活动等场景中关于个人基本信息的简单问题，或关于个人基本信息的简单介绍，如姓名、国籍、年龄、性别、喜好、习惯、身份、家庭成员、朋友、技能等。 (Understand: listen for simple questions or introductions about basic personal information — name, nationality, age, gender, preferences, habits, identity, family, friends, skills — in scenes such as gatherings, new-student registration and events.)
• 能在上述场景中询问个人的基本信息；能回答上述场景中关于个人基本信息的简单问题。 (Ask and answer: ask about basic personal information and answer simple questions about it in those scenes.)
• 能简单介绍上述个人基本信息。 (Introduce: briefly introduce the basic personal information above.)
• 能识别名片、身份证、学生卡、短小读物等材料上的上述个人基本信息。 (Recognise in print: recognise the basic personal information above on materials such as name cards, ID cards, student cards and short readings.)

The level 1 topic table and its printed totals

The level 1 topic table (printed pages 56–57) has five first-tier topics: 基本信息, 日常生活, 教育情况, 职场生活, 文化与传统.

The table ends with three printed totals for level 1:
