chinesetest.cn: what the official site is for and how accounts work

Sources checked

chinesetest.cn is the Chinese Test Service Website, where candidates register for tests. A candidate makes an account there with a username, an email address and a password, and logs in with that email address each time. This site is a different site. It is unofficial, it takes no registrations and it shows no results.

Signing up and logging in

Before you sign up, the site shows the CTI Registration Agreement and a Guide to Privacy Protection for Chinese Test Candidates. Click "I have read and agree" to confirm that you accept these terms. Then set a username, give an email address and set a password. The sign-up passage says you are then signed up.

The sign-up passage also gives these rules:

  • Each email address can sign up for one Chinese Test Service Website account.
  • The page says personal information will be effectively secured and kept strictly confidential. It is used to contact you and for other matters related to the test.
  • You log in with your email address each time you access the site. You can only do the operations after logging in.
  • You can view your test records, mailing information, and change your password in "My Account". You can also pay test fees and issue invoices there.

Registering for a test

The official page lists seven steps in this order:

  1. Sign up as a user of the Chinese Test Service Website.
  2. Select the test type, test date, and test center.
  3. Fill in your personal information and verify it, then upload a photo.
  4. Fill in your mailing information.
  5. Confirm the information and submit it.
  6. Pay the test fee online, or contact the test center to pay the test fee and complete the registration.
  7. Get your admission ticket.

The page says registration is officially valid only after steps 1 to 6 are complete.

The sign-up passage says you can register for several tests at the same time on the site. It also says HSK Level 5 and Level 6 tests cannot be registered for on the same day at this time.

Changing personal information

The sign-up passage says no changes to personal information are allowed after the fee is paid successfully. If you find an error, you apply for a correction through the Chinese Test Service Website and attach supporting documents. The passage gives an email address and telephone numbers for this purpose, and the service hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00-11:30 and 13:30-18:00, excluding national legal holidays. For weekend inquiries, the passage says to contact the registered test center. The passage does not say how long a correction takes.

If you find incorrect personal information on the exam day, tell the test center staff clearly that you want it changed. Bring the necessary supporting materials, for example photos of your original identity document.

The passage says no free change is accepted more than three days after the exam. After that, you submit a paid application through the site for a score report information correction or for additional score reports.

Services after the test

Three post-test services are applied for in "My Account":

  • Additional score reports. A candidate who needs them for personal reasons applies through "My Account". One application can request at most 10 score reports. The additional services passage gives no fee amount.
  • Score report modification. A candidate can apply to correct personal information errors on a score report.
  • Score review. A candidate who doubts a result can apply for a score review.

For the detailed steps and notes, the page refers to the sections named "Additional Score Report Application", "Score Report Modification Application" and "Score Review Application" on the Chinese Tests Service website.
